The 70’s saw the company release the first models in the McIntosh Loudspeaker line, the ML1, ML2 and ML4.
The McIntosh MR78 tuner was released in ’72 and is now regarded as an all-time classic. McIntosh earned a patent on the circuit design the same year. McIntosh also earned patents for loudspeaker and equalization systems as well as for the Power Guard® circuit.
The Grateful Dead unveiled the “Wall of Sound” on March 23, 1974, at the San Francisco Cow Palace. Power was provided by McIntosh amplifiers. The “Wall of Sound” would tour with the band for the next two years.
Frank McIntosh retired in 1977 and Gordon Gow would become President of McIntosh.
