1960’s

The 60’s were marked by innovation and saw the advent of McIntosh’s famous front-panel illumination.  The story goes that Gordon Gow suggested the front panel composition and after developing their own ink, the McIntosh signature look of gold lettering in a lit room and teal illumination in a dim setting was born. The MI-2 was the first unit to feature the all-glass front panel.

Dave O’Brien joined McIntosh in 1962 and would lead the highly successful McIntosh Amplifier Clinics for the next 30 years.

The McIntosh Loudspeaker division was created in ‘67. Product highlights from the decade were the introductions of McIntosh’s first stereo power amplifier, the MC240; the first tuner-preamplifier with the Panloc mounting system, the MX110, the MR67 and MR71 tuners; the first solid-state product, the C24 preamplifier; the first solid state power amplifiers, MC250, MC2100, MC2505 and MC2105; the first solid-state tuner-preamplifier, the MX112; andMcIntosh’s first receiver, the MAC1500

The Woodstock Music Festival in ’69 would wrap up the decade and go down in history. The festival included a number of McIntosh amplifiers.
