MHA100 AND MHP1000 ARE "McINTOSH THOROUGHBREDS IN THE TRUEST SENSE OF THE WORD"
Audio Video SA recently reviewed the MHA100 headphone amplifier and MHP1000 headphones. After fully inspecting both units, they were put to the test. First up was Wilhelm Kempf’s benchmark 1961 recording of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Berlin Philharmonic. It was thought Kempf's deep and sensitive approach and wide dynamic range would be a tough test, but the "McIntosh combo dug deep into the heart and soul of the music, while easily recreating both the majesty and the pathos of the performance." Further, "the sonic image was expansive and pin-point accurate in the placement of the orchestral sections." With Jackson Browne's If I Could Be Anywhere, the MHA100 and MHP1000 "picked its way through the performance with ease, doing full justice to each element."
To sum the two pieces up, they say the MHP1000 are "comfortable and beautifully executed" headphones that "sound every bit as lavish as they look and feel. Smooth, rich and rounded delivery, with ample space and step-in soundstaging." In regards to the MHA100, it "is superb in every sense, offering a level of sonic grip and musical authenticity that is spell-binding. It always makes the most of the material on offer, regardless of source or genre, and displays the combination of authority and engagement that is at the heart" of McIntosh's appeal.
